In this 60 minute workshop, participants will have the opportunity to talk about the difficult conversations they have had in classrooms, often around such topics as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and politics. We will also teach dialogue skills that can be used in such conversations, using psychodrama and discussion.
“Dr. Dave” Derezotes is Director of the Peace and Conflict Studies Program in the College of Humanities, Professor and Chair of Mental Health in the College of Social Work (CSW) and Director of the Transforming Classrooms into Inclusive Communities (TCIC) project in the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE). He is Chair of the CSW Social Justice Committee and sits on the University Diversity Committee as well. His vocational passion is in teaching and mentoring, and he currently facilitates dialogue skill trainings for faculty and staff and students across campus and does counseling and community organizing in the Salt Lake City area. He has written five textbooks on social work and dialogue, and often does educational presentations on teaching and facilitation. Dr. Dave often is wandering out somewhere out in the desert, playing at being an amateur geologist.
