The Center for Science and Mathematics Education (CSME) is pleased to present the CSME Exchange, an interactive brown bag discussion for UofU faculty, instructors and staff. The next CSME Exchange is:
Can we promote student success by embracing short-term failure?
Jennifer Heemstra, University of Utah (Chemistry)
Thursday, Dec 8, 2016
INSCC room 345
12-1pm
Lunch will be provided!
In research and many other creative enterprises, willingness to fail enables teams and individuals to tackle big challenges, learn from their mistakes, and iterate to ultimately produce the best possible result. However, the traditional college curriculum encourages students to avoid failure at all costs. This Exchange will provide a forum for discussing this disconnect, and whether we can better prepare students for their future careers by encouraging them to embrace short-term failure on the path to success.
Join us for an informal discussion and exchange of ideas!
