Hugo Rossi, CSME’s Founding Director

Hugo2

Hugo Rossi was raised in the inner city of New York, to be someone who graduated from College. Summers as a pavement layer’s grunt convinced him that his parents’ desires were worthy. He became a mathematician by default: he wanted to play the clarinet, he wanted to write heart-wrenching prose, but he was too cold and logical: his intellectual tug was that of mathematics. So, by default he chose this path (after it was chosen for him); while listening to the great music and reading the great prose.

Hugo had a career in theoretical mathematics that did not change the world, but added to it. All the time, he was concerned with, and acted on this concern, education. Upon retirement that became his preoccupation, and to which he is still devoted.
