Jessica Dwyer receives award from Utah Science Teachers Association

Each year, the Utah Science Teachers Association (UtSTA) gives numerous awards to outstanding educators in Utah.  The award recipients are chosen from nominations sent by fellow teachers, administrators, and district personnel.

We are pleased to announce that Jessica Dwyer, Academic Program Manager at the CSME, received the 2018 UtSTA Higher Education Award.

Jess is a Board Certified educator committed to social justice in science education. Her career as a secondary science teacher and instructional coach provided a wide range of experiences in Title 1 settings.  These experiences give her insights into complex classroom challenges, the persistent motivation to address them, and an abiding compassion and gratitude for classroom teachers. Jess’ work at the University of Utah’s Center for Science and Mathematics Education supports teachers to build content knowledge, hone practices, and expand socio-emotional skill sets towards increasing confidence and pedagogical content knowledge.  This work, in turn, supports ALL students to build science-positive identities.

Congratulations, Jess!
